I did a little work-travel detecting today. I thought the place looked old enough ( circa ww2 ) for silver but all the coins I dug were clad. This one thing was a winner though. I almost gave up because the hole was getting so deep i thought it must be big junk. Then about 12 inches deep i finally uncovered this.
Tons of corrosion, first pic is after field cleaning it without much success. Next was after some metal brush scrubbing, and finally after using naval jelly. I included pics of an un-dug variety as a reference.
My research shows it was a giveaway advertising piece from somewhere in the 1901 to 1909 period.
