Cool old token found at historic house. Any ideas?

Can anyone identify this token? I found it a an historic house earlier today. On the front it says GOOD FOR 10 CENTS JOHN STRENG AT THE BAR. The other side says GEO KUEHL BILLIARD SUPPLIES CHICAGO around a circle that says CHECK in it. it is about one inch in diameter, and has a octagonal shape. It appears to be copper or brass. see pictures for details.Thanks for the info,

I think Don is spot on. Businesses often used different shapes for different denominations - especially in the days of poor inside lighting.
