Cool Rock

Hi,

I found this rock a few feet from the road and about 50 feet from a brook in North Central Ma. Its maybe 2 inches long 1 1/2 inches wide 1/2 to 3/4 wide. Thanks.

Chert nodule? Do you have any chalk formations in the area?

Kray is correct.. but speaking more specifically it is a Flint nodule, one of the varieties of chert. Go to the link below, look at the second photo (which looks exactly like what you found, and is titled Flint), and then read the paragraph titled Terminology.
