Hey everyone.
I found this dime in my register today and I have been unable to find any information about it.
The side of it shows all copper and no other layer.
Is this a post mint modification?
Thanks in advance!

It could be a wrong planchet in the die, but the rim should be a lot thicker. How does the thickness compare to regular dimes? It is heavier. A dime should weigh 2.268

Hmm thats interesting.
The rim doesn't seem thicker than a normal dime and the rim does have ridges like a normal dime.

Maybe it was tumbled in vinegar with copper pennies???

It looks stained to me. I would use a soft eraser under water to confirm.

Maybe someone plated a dime with copper for fun. It could explain it being the right size but slightly higher weight.

MrSchutz has it right, vinegar mixed with copper.

Interesting.
I got it in my penny tray in my register at work. So if someone did go through all that work he lost 9 cents on his investment.
Coin Value | US Missing Clad Layer 1965 to Date
That says it could be worth $400. I am definitely going to look into this. I will keep you folks posted. :-)

Sorry, that's impossible. It would weigh significantly LESS if it was missing the cladding. Your's weighs more.

Aw bummer!

Not worth selling on eBay especially since it weights more instead of less.
