I visited a friend and brought some pea soup. She needed some rest, so I tried detecting her back woods. I found some childhood remnants of her grown son's frolicking....my first metal toy car....also an arrow. Found lots of cans, gunshot thingies, glass... I thought I found 2 acorn buttons but they turned out to be just acorns. When digging for another gunshot piece, it turned out to be an old copper. It doesn't look like my other one cent coppers. There are some letters, no date, and faint outlines of bust (looks like facing right) and not sure of back. I am thinking it might be an early colonial copper...maybe Vermont? I will upload several pictures..The foil rubbings seem to help. Thanks for any input in identifying it. Very exciting! Nice find

Definitely a Vermont copper. 1785 - 1787

Congrats on the old copper. It looks like the woods do in fact have a long history to which one should be exploring again.

Awesome save, UW! Still enough detail left to i.d...Congrats on a rare find...Ddf

Little coin in the big woods...should be the title of a book.

Thanks, ColonialCT. Have you found a good reference site? I am confused by what looks like an "O" on the left side of the reverse. I appreciate your input.
