Copper shipwreck sculpture

This past Saturday, we were luck to go out to a couple of yard sales. We were hit with a lot of wind from the tropical storm and over 700000 customers were without power here in Ct. I bought one thing though and it is a dandy!! This large copper shipwreck sculpture was calling my name and I had to have it! I paid $75.00 for it. The seller was an older gentleman who bought it years ago in South Carolina. We’ve located the very faint signature and it is a C Jere piece from the late 60’s -70’s. A massive 3D sculpture that is mounted on driftwood. The seller had put it on this bench which I’ve already taken off. The piece is now in the house so that the original driftwood doesn’t get all punky.

a quick look on the net showed a couple of other copper ship pieces from that gallery listed for anywhere from 450 to 1250 dollars. Looks you made a good score. Makes me wonder though if the patina subtracts value from it. Either way you did good!

Thanks! A lot of their other pieces are wall pieces and only a handful of 3D pieces. This thing is like 3 feet long and almost the same in height. Given the size and quality of it, I think it could be a $1500 piece especially if I sold it down on the coast of Ct. or RI. But I’m not selling it! Any patina on a copper or bronze sculpture or artwork is important to keep on to maintain value and adding character to it. Removing it would be a huge mistake.
