Found this during a pre civil war homesite privy dig. It was found among several old bottles, including black glass, silverware, pipes etc. Usual privy stuff. It has some green patina like copper, chain/hook and vessell seem to be hand forged. Also looks like the vessell itself was put together with a box and dovetial technique, similar to wood carpentry. The wall are almost 1/2 thick.

I have researched google endlessly and cant find anything similar. It almost look slike an urn but a cooking vessell as well.

Thanks

Looks like to me than ole mans wife put his urn down the ole shat hole. Interesting!!!!!!!!vanzutphen

I believe it was used to boil water over a fire to be able to drink it.
