"CORNISH MINERS COTTAGE 1871-2006 " SILVER FOR A CHANGE

Hi everyone, been a bit to hot to go chinese dump digging, so i went to mded an old cornish miner's cottage. The area was called Kentlie and there where large numbers of the small miners cottages scattered down the side of the hill. Many of these cottages where removed after WW 1 for cheap housing else where.Other just fell into ruins and where demolished. The cornish miners that lived in these small cottages where poorly paid. They worked long hours in the local deep saddle quartz mines and didn,t get any of gold which they mined. They often used to shallow small pieces of gold just to help keep their families alive. The mine owners often had random searches at the end of the mining shift but could do little to stop the theft.I had enough time to hit 2 cottages to day and found 2 one shillings {silver}.Gee the ground here is even hard on silver.Just to show you the difference i used a larger florin in good condition just to show you ,how bad the ground is.
There few pics of finds and sites. No lives in these old cottages anymore.the sites are only down the road from my place                                         tinpan

They often used to shallow small pieces of gold just to help keep their families alive.

Time to start looking for the old outhouse pits! ;D

Nice job on the silver. Those coins are beautiful. What are the dates? I have a 1900 Shilling coin that is in perfect shape. It's valued at about $50.

Nice finds Tinpan.

My ancestors were Cornish miners and followed the gold and silver strikes around the world. I think one of my ancestors was at the Eureka Stockade (not protesting against the unjust licensing system but I think they just wandered down to complain about all the noise). ;D
