Hello All. I found this tonight at a 1900's era home site. The corrugated part is copper and the ends are brass.

What is it? A tiny laundry washboard? A tiny musical washboard?

There are no markings and it was about 8-IN deep.

Thanks for the view and any info on this item. C9

It looks like a vintage "crinkle cutter" for vegetables. Most had a handle like AARC posted, and some were on a board. Your cutter appears to loop around and hook to form a circle, which could have been mounted on a circular item or flat board.

Neat find :)

Did they make vegetable cutters out of copper? I would think it'd be too soft.
I'm thinking more on the lines of a musical instrument. but then copper might be too soft for that also.
The washboards that I've seen were either galvanized or brass.

I can't say for sure it's a kitchen crinkle cutter because I've never seen one quite like it, but the hook & eye makes me think it is a versatile kitchen utensil in that it can be used flat to cut fruits and vegetables or made round for cookies and biscuits.

In a short search, I found quite a few copper crinkle cut utensils for cookies/biscuits. Also, copper has been used in cooking pots, kettles, etc. for many years.

Are there any markings on the brass ends? I'd like to see a photo of it hooked and circular.

I don't know what it is but from what I see I keep coming back to a kitchen "tool" that hooks around a rolling pin to crimp pastry or make lasagns noodles or something. Doesn't look strong enough for anything rugged and obviously hools to itself or something else. ???

I'm not doubting your ability to ID metal, but are you sure it is solid copper? Also, do the end attachment pieces look to be secured to the corrugated piece by a manufacturer/factory or does the attachment look 'Mammy made?' The reason I asked is the 2 end pieces resemble the end pieces for a tapestry bell pull.

Can you make a pic of it hooked end to end in a circular shape or better, can you wrap it around a rolling pin?

:)
