Cortes as a relic hunter??

My cortez hits iron and the like with very good depth and discrimination, and as always, it pinpoints like a dream. I wouldn't see any problem with its use as a relic machine, as a matter of fact, I get out-of-the-ordinary depth on nails. If I did alot of relic hunting I would probably rate a cortez as a top choice.

Hello GoldFish and Chef50,

I currently own a Tesoro Golden UMax and was thinking of buying the Cortes as a 2nd detector. Can you tell me what your experience has been with the machine?
Would you recommend it and how is the display on the eyes is it too small or ok?
Any advice would sure help.

Sofar, the Cortes seems to be a really good relic hunter....I'm still learning the controls but it looks to be a easy learner....I'm very happy with this hotrod....A+.....Steve in Tenn.

Bull, I think I need to warn you.......if you get a cortez, you probably won't use it as a backup. They really do run like a dream, and in my kinda limited opinion are worth every penny(yes, even large pennies). I have been hunting side-by-side with an ace 250 for a couple weeks now, I know they are good machines, but my cortez just kills the thing.

The TID number is a little small but I hunt like I dont have TID and then I look at the number after I have SUMMED the signal. Then you can decide what to dig. I have been digging everyhting just to learn the TID. It is VERY good at ID'ing chopped up can peices. All else is a good dig signal to me. Also the narrow notch works very well and breaking up pulltab signals. You might hear them, but they are choppy and not repeatable. Some complain that all coins register as 95, but just to the left is more info to help ID the coin. Zincs are usually in upper 80's. Are there really people out there who are so finicky that they do not dig clad and only dig silver? If so, why not just get any machine and crank up the discrimination. It is impossible to disc. out silver with any machine I have ever used anyway.

The Cortes is an under rated detector . Don't let the lower price fool you. It can perform as well as higher costing detectors. Although considered a better coinhunter , it can still find relics with ease. A better overall relic detector would be the Tejon but the Cortes still grades high marks in that catagory.

The DeLeon is the Cortes' little brother but has the same depth. I owned the DeLeon and it was the best relic hunter I ever owned until I purchased the Tejon.

Due to it's ground balance and more powerful recieve circuitry, the Tejon is deeper than the Cortes/DeLeon on coins. But for iron relics I'd say they are very close.

So yes, the Cortes would be great for relics.

If you're hunting sites with very differing ground balance such as near old gold mines I'd go with the Lobo for its super fast automatic ground balancing.
