Hello,

A friend of mine brought me a rock which he found in the mountains. Because I am not an expert, I would like to ask you, real experts in this field, if this very heavy and beautiful rock with shining silver crystals could be silver or gold or platinum, or if it is just nice sample of pyrite..... Thanks a lot for your expertise!

All the best....
Lobo

Pyrite. Most likely from an area with silver mines close by. What state...mountain range. I have samples like that from an area west of Death Valley

Hi Goldwasher,
Thanks for your expertise and quick answer. The sample comes from central mountain range of the Dominican Republic. There were around that spot some smaller gold mines in the past.

Probably worth a little as mineral specimens, very nice :)

All pyrite has some gold in it. How much depends on the area in was found in. Most require some kind of chemical treatment to release the gold. Still an interesting specimen though.

Thanks a lot to all of you!
I will try to get some more samples anyway.

All the best...
Lobo

Jeff Williams gets Gold from Pyrite

And if you don't have a furnace.
