I think it's a William 1st "Pax Penny" but could do with any more information i.e. mint mark, legend, date, rough value etc. I'm thinking about putting it on e-bay . I've posted this over on the coins section but there do not seem to be as many visitors there.

Thanks people.

That's what it is, very nice find:thumbsup: These coins can command a good price but it all depends on the mint, plus condition. This coin is has high wear and damage can't see you getting more than £80 for it, unless it's a rare mint. Still a great find.

Hard to tell for sure, but resembles to Type VIII Pax penny that was minted 1084-1088 (which spans the end of William I and the start of William II reigns). I say that more from the reverse than the obverse, but I can't tell how much the bending in the coin is distorting the images. Did you dig this up? It looks like a remarkable find!

Thanks guys. I'm moving house at the moment and came across this coin among a group of other coins that I've had for years. I can't remember digging this one and I'm sure that I would have remembered digging such a nice William The Conqueror coin. I think it was in a small group of hammered coins that I bought a few years ago.
