Hi everyone, just just got back from the woods, landed a killer hit on my a\t pro in the 90s, and pulled this bad boy out, wanting to clean it up for a better view but not sure how to go about it, HH

Hi; The best way to clean it is to take a small fold of tin foil large enough to cover both sides of the coin. Form a cup with the coin in the middle of the foil. Make sure the shiny side of the foil is facing toward the coin. Pour some table salt in the center of the cup. place the coin in the cup. Then pour CLEAR Vinegar in the cup enough to cover both sides of the coin. Then pour more salt on top of the coin. Fold the edges of the foil over the top of the coin making sure it makes contact with the coin. Sit back and wait 30 minutes. Then open the foil up. The dirt will peel off when you rinse it. Pat it dry with a "Cloth" TOWEL. NOT a paper towel. They leave lint all over the coin ok. Then just take a wooden tooth pick and "PUSH" the dirt off the coin. DO NOT scratch at the coin dirt ok.
If dirt still remains repeat the above steps making sure to use a clean piece of tin foil ok. This will leave the coin clean and not remove the Patina. That is the best way overall. I've tried all the other ways. This works the best ok. Great find. PEACE:RONB

Acid? Salt? Aluminum? wow. Just... no.

For the dirt and gunk, I would start with a warm soapy water bath. You can let it sit in the water for a few hours. I would take it out every once in a while to see what you can brush off, but you are better off just leaving it alone. Most methods of cleaning coins cause huge amounts of damage. Do as little as possible.

vinegar, salt,..? CRINGE I wouldn't Warm soapy water, pat dry. I've ruined enough coins to not try anything exotic. I put Vaseline on my old or corroded coins to keep them from further oxidation n put them away in a medicine bottle with those little canisters that keep medication dry (in the bottle of aspirin for example)

It's not a rare or valuable date, so, soaking it in vinegar or hot peroxide isn't going to change it's value much, if any. I doubt there would be much demand to put it into a collection considering it's current condition. If it were mine, I'd clean it.
