Could this be a CW era buckle?

I was searching a new spot where troops are known to have camped at least one night. It could just be an old buckle. I am not sure.

It very well could be. I say that because I tried to look it up for you LOL> Upon searching, I found this guys collection at: http://hanoverbrass.com/ ,if you go 3/4 down the page you see "Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Confederate States original belt plates that I had displayed in the Cold Harbor Museum collection." I see a similar buckle in a case on the above left. Good luck to you.

I don't think so...they are harness buckles...not more that 60-70 years old...
