Could this be a die error?

I found this '64 nickel today while out detecting, and when looking at the date with a 8x lens, the 4 looked really strange. Through the lens, it looked as though the end of the horizontal line of the 4, that it turned up at the far right tip.. Quite obvious when looking at it that way, but zooming way in on a scan I can see that the other numbers appear almost smooshed a bit, and the upturn is not so obvious.. Anyway, see what you think...

too uniform for a error just some lattening on the numbers and such its just normal wear
 
Could be a double die error on the year but the current surface condition makes this a tough call.
 
not a double die. If anything maybe a die chip.
 
Looks like a die chip or die gouge.
