Someone mentioned the idea of tracking counterpunched lincoln pennies to see if we can find one counterpunched from every state.

I didn't want to add it to the main 2008 tracking list thread, so I figured I would create a new thread dedicated to any interesting counterpunch finds (not just state counterpunches).

Also I would like to start off the list with the penny I found searching today that was counterpunched with OH.

Tracking list for lincoln cents counterpunched with states

I found a 1976 with the outline of the US and a liberty bell on it last week.

I found an '83 zinc with an outline of South Carolina counterpunched while coin roll hunting.

While metal detecting in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park a few years ago, I found FOUR wheaties (3-'55 and 1-'56) all stacked in the same hole, all counterpunched with "RG".

Is this thread only for 2008 finds?

Here are a couple of counterpunched cents from my collection. The one on the left is the Lincoln/Kennedy that Sir mentioned. The one on the right is a wheat cent that has CM117 stamped across Lincoln, which I thought was a cool find because it is my initials.

Hi Immy,
I believe we need to make it for 2008 only. Let's see everyone if we can find all 50 states this year!

HH

Over the past couple of weeks I added two more counterpunched pennies.

One has a heart that says "I Love You"
The other has a star with not quite identifiable stuff in the star.

Today got another of the JFK counterpunched lincolns

Two more counterpunched pennies.

One counterpunched with the letter "R".
One counterpunched with JFK.

50 pennies set called "Land of the U.S.A."

I think the pennies you are looking for came from the 50 pennies set called "Land of the U.S.A." with each penny representing each of the 50 American states. A whole set sold on Ebay for 12 bucks.

Got my first counterpunched penny of the year today - a 1975-D Lincoln-Kennedy.

My Lincoln-Kennedy years are now 1973-D, 1974, 1974-D, 1975-D, 1978 and 1979-D.

Found the most elaborate counterpunched Lincoln I've ever come across. It features a guy on horseback riding past a house and waving to a person in a window. No lettering, so I wonder what it's supposed to be. Maybe Paul Revere's midnight ride? Amazing that this much detail fits in the tiny area above the date, which is 1974.

GMan, I think the star CP you found is the Eastern Star symbol, which is the women's branch of the Masons. If it's a five-point star I've got one of those too.
