Cleaned up pretty nice, too. The great seal button is marked JC Gaunt & Sons New York, I think. Found these in the woods in DC. Any idea how old the Essayons button is?

Yes, that is possible since the button has not changed in basic design since the war of 1812. It is still the required button for the Army Engineers' uniform.
