Found this on Matagorda Island, Tx. about 3 inches down. I think it maybe an animal tag but I really don't know. Couldn't find any info online. It's cool how the symbols (heart, capital L, and cross) are punched out.

Being a retired auto mechanic I have seen my share of those. It's a carburetor ID tag off an old car. Rochester & Carter carbs use that exact style & shape including the punch outs. Yours broke off at the screw hole..

I'll do you one better. Here is what carb number 539S (your tag is upside down in the pic) would have come on.. It's from a 40s vintage military Jeep Carburetors & Kits - Show Quality Rebuilt Carter Carburetor Fits 41-53 MB, GPW, CJ-2A, 3A
