Cowboy Killer, Shotgun Shell, Flat Key & Some Date Nails - Today's best finds

[Old Pueblo]

A few of today's finds, including a cowboy's worst nightmare (a tiny little arrowhead, called a bird point), a 10 gauge Repeater shell, which is kind of cool, since you most often find them in 12 gauge, and an old flat key. Can anyone put a date or date range on this key?




Date nails include a rough 1909, a better 1911 (which I actually found the other day), and a 1923.

Im 98% sure it is a Model T replacement key.

After looking up the American Lock Co, which is still in business, and checking out some of their old keys online, I think you're probably right. The padlock this key went to looks like it was patented in 1932. Thank you

Thank you. Date nails were made throughout most of the 20th century here in the USA, and longer in other places like Europe, Canada or Australia. 99% of mine are from railroads, mostly Southern Pacific, but they can also be found in old telegraph/telephone poles, old highway guardrails and so forth. If you want to find one, your best bet is to look for old railroads that havent been ripped up, or old railroad ties that have already been removed. You see them a lot in rural areas, used as fence posts and stuff like that. There is a lot of rural areas where I live, so Ive gotten to the point where I can find on basically any time Im looking. I mostly find 1925, 1926 and 1927s, where I am at.
