There was another scam going around concerning Craig's list a short time ago. I heard from one of the scammer's just after I heard of this scam. I had a Garrett AT PRO I had just advertised on Craigs list. Here is the scam. And this was exactly the same scam. Someone call's and say's that they are interested in your item for sale, but they are in the military on ship out to sea. The caller says that he will have a friend come by with a check and pick the item up, and to call him when you receive the check. The caller then proceeds to cancel the check. The Scammer now has your item and his money. I had only heard of this days earlier when this (Jug Head) called. Clean version, and I told him that I knew what he was and what he was attempting to do and not to ever call this number again. I then reported the attempted theft. I don't trust doing business on Craigs list personally. One has to be careful these days. Too, far Too many Low Lifes out and about.

What a coincidence... While reading this thread I just got a call from "Publishers Clearing House" I won 3 million dollars and it will only cost me $8,000.00 to collect it.
Here is the # I was called from 1 876 390 7396 Turns out it is from Jamaica. I told the man to hold on a minute that there just happened to be an FBI agent in my house and I would put him on the phone. Needless to say publishers clearing house hung up before the agent could get to the phone.

After he hung up I did a google search on the number. Turns out that the FTC wants a report from folks who received calls from that area code. So I reported the incident.

Don't you just love it, when someone informs you that you have just won this great Grand Prize. And it's only gonna' cost you so much money to bring this prize home. I'd personally like to see these folks when caught win 3 strikes with a cane in public like some of these other countries do. While some would claim this to be too brutal....These other countries that support this form of punishment don't have the same amount of crime that we have here in the U.S. That is why we have so much crime here. Criminals and Thugs are coddled. And they know it.

I put NO CHECKS ACCEPTED on my adds unless I'm under caffeinated and forget. If they try to offer a check I explain I'll only accept cash. If they persist, I tell them to void the check and withdraw the cash or cash the check themselves. I usually get hung up on before I can finish. Real simple for them if they're legit. Since they don't know my name the check has to be blank, so easy for them to make it out to themselves and bring cash. Most of the time it doesn't even go that far since my meet up spot is the PD parking lot.

I pretty much gave up on CL lately. Save up all my sellables and head to the swap meet. $10 for a stall and a lot less scammers, and all transactions are in cash. You only have a 50 or 100? Here I'll set it back here till you come back with change, oh I'll put it back on the table in 20 minutes. Oh! Don't forget to pop a pic of them if your gut says their hinky. A few hours on a Saturday is a lot easier than a whole week of dealing with CL.

When I get emails and or phone calls that I won millions of dollars and I have to pay taxes and other expenses, I tell them to give my winners to the poor in their country. Never hear from them again.

I recently got a call from someone representing themselves as the IRS. He left a message saying that there was a serious problem with my recent tax filing. It could constitute fraud. Then there was the Urgent Need for me to contact him at ### ### ####.
Hey guys,, the IRS doesn't make calls like that. If you're going to be audited, they will contact you by registered mail. Then you have the option of calling them or having your CPA look into it. They do not call you and leave messages.

I had two Scammers contact me about my' Tag Heuer Aquaracer Watch that I have for sale on Craigslist. One wanted to send the payment plus $100 for next day shipping thru PayPal and the other wanted to do the same and have someone pick up the watch within minutes of the payment being sent via PayPal. Well, I did not fall off the Turnip Truck this morning or yesterday and told them so. I have had this Scam tried on me several times before and before I let the Scammers go through the motions so that I would have evidence to send to the FBI. During the previous scams, I received legit looking emails from PayPal saying that I received a payment which also included links to a fake PayPal site. Instead, I logged into my' account with the genuine PayPal to see if I had received a payment and I had not. At this point I cut off communications with the Scammers and forwarded all of the info to the FBI. The one that wanted to send someone to my door this week to pick up the watch, stop communicating with me when I said that the payment had to be transferred to my' Bank and when the money was in my' Bank account, I would contact him or her to have the watch picked up. Also, if someone showed up to my' door before then, they would be met by me and I would be armed.

A 'heads up' for those men who may be regular Home Depot customers. This one caught me by surprise.

I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends. Here's how the scam works:

Two seriously good-looking 20-21 year-old girls come over to your car as you are packing your shopping into the trunk. They both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy tops.

It is impossible not to look.

When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'no' and instead ask you for a ride to McDonalds.

You agree and they get into the back seat. On the way, they start undressing. Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and starts crawling all over you, while the other one steals your wallet.

I had my wallet stolen January 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th, 24th & 29th. Also February 1st & 4th, twice on the 8th, 16th, 23rd, 26th, three times last Monday and very likely again this upcoming weekend.

So tell your friends to be careful.

P.S. Wal-Mart has wallets on sale for 2.99 each. I found cheaper ones for $1.99 at K-Mart and bought them out. Also, you never will get to eat at McDonalds. I've already lost 11 pounds just running back and forth to Home Depot.

Maybe, but, #50 is pretty funny......even though I've seen it before! :laughing7:

Yes, it has been around for quite a while. I couldn't resist posting it after reading all the other stories though.

I was scammed three times but caught it before any money changed hands. Mine were for the purchase of a pure bred boxer puppy. Here there are only a couple reputable breeders. So you can either get on a waiting list in excess of 12 months, or look out of state. Two people tried scamming me out of state (one that conveniently was heading out of the country and was going to give me a "deal"). The third one was a local ad that I caught them in a lie and they took down the ad.

Needless to say, don't trust people over the net unless they have a solid reputation.

I don't get how people fall for these FBI threat emails.
