The following is a Monthly report from the Crater of Diamonds State Park. For more info go to http://www.craterofdiamondsstatepark.com/

NEW AREA TO OPEN ON MINE SEARCH AREA

A new trench was placed in the "West Drain" on the diamond search area this week. It will be available for visitors to search in as of Saturday, September 16, 2006. In August 2005, the first trench was placed in the "East Drain". This project was a great success. Steve Lee, Arkansas resident, found a 1.22-carat white diamond in August, shortly after the trench was dug. Courtney Conder, a 9-year old Illinois resident found a 1.11-carat white diamond and Mike Ellison, a North Carolina native found a 2.19-carat white diamond in the trenched area. The new trench will be the same size as the one in the "East Drain": 150yards long and sloping to a depth of 4 feet. The material that is removed from the trench is spread onto the surface of the adjacent area.
