I know how you feel....we just got 6 more inches of the white stuff.

Spring is on it's way here in Wisconsin. I can see the deer in my back yard.

That picture is so funny !!

Mick56, that picture is funny! Don't miss out on the opportunity, they just made a path in the snow for you to detect

I have detected in a local creek in 20 degree weather. I found mucho trash and one penny. It was awesome! Easy digging. You just shuffle the sand/silt/pebbles away with your wader boots and wait for the current to clear the cloud. I would take some kind of a scoop with a handle to pick up items and move larger stones. I didn't have one and had to barehand dip the items I retrieved. I would stay away from mud or silt as it isn't safe if you go swimming by accident. I will definitely do this some more as I find some more promising creeks to work.

Try near fishing spots, swimming holes (look for rope swings), old bridges, and mill sites. It also makes sense to check these areas when it is hot to see where the people are using the creek, then you can go back and hit it in winter.

In my state, you can even detect the creek bottoms on state wildlife management areas. This was a surprise because they won't let you even pick up a fallen acorn.

Good luck. It definitely beats chipping ice and frozen soil to mangle targets. I have done that too.

Fair winds and following seas,

Fathead
