Kevin,

if you have 4x4, start at ocean trace rd, and move south. like Cap Z. said:
the good stuff is very deep!! That damm Northern we had all week, pushed sand up,
instead taking it out!! and *** WARNING****your going to see wooden 4x4' post with sign's
saying "conservation area ": all the way down the beach. it one big pain-in-ass, sea-turtle
area. god-for-bid, if your caught in the area detecting. so just watch where you go.
the whole beach area is good !!! north and south.

good luck hunting, sapper

technically speaking... any public land within the city limits of st augustine cant be detected. found this on the municipal codes of st augustine before i visited aout a month ago. you can get a city limits pdf map emailed to you by the clerks office. its worth knowing this info before you get hassled and/or fined.

Not to worry. Crescent beach is not in St. Augustine. Lots of swimming and stuff in front of South Beach Grill. Probably some modern stuff to find there.

Just a few miles south of Crescent Beach is Matanzas Inlet. Be sure to go to the National Park there. They run a boat to a very old Spanish Fort and give a good spiel about the fort and the Spanish.
The boat runs on a schedule all day and the great thing is that it is Free!

Read some of the threads on Matanzas inlet but be sure you don't metal detect on Park Property.

Thank you all for the info, I am so excited! :D
