Crossed Sabre's

Found this tonight on a short hunt. I believe it's crossed Sabre's? WW1? Hat badge? Calvary? What's the "15" ? Company? Some kind of commemorative or annivesary production? You see I have a lot of questions!
It was under a driveway tearout, and close to a civil war camp. Camp Utley. I am pretty sure, not civil war, just wishfull thinking.
Thanks for any info.
Steve

Re: Crossed Sabre's

It's a U.S. Cavalry insignia. The earliest date for this style would be 1876, when General Orders No. 21 prescribed that the number of the regiment be placed in the upper angle of the crossed sabers.

Thanks PBK! I know you said the earliest date for this style is 1876,but do you know what this one would date? approx.? It also looked like it had something attached under the Sabre's?

I see where the Troop letter was attached below the Cross Sabres, but its broke off.I'd like to see the back of your Cross Sabres dude as I think you might have the 1902 pattern.Basically it'll be 1897-1910 or so.I have some identical to yours from the 10th Cavalry Troop.BUt I need to see the back and see if you have a screw post attachment or the pin type fastner.

Cool find regardless dude, these are neat relics to dig right here.Nice going.Daniel

After seeing the photos of the back, I agree with Daniel that it appears to be a Model 1902 insignia.
