Crotal bell? Age?

I found this at a civil war site and believe it's a crotal bell? Any idea on how old?

I think that's consider more of a sleigh bell....i found one similar

Is there any markings at the very base of the bell in the middle of the petal design?

That's a very old bell. I wouldn't think it would be military related, could be older?

The bell maker would have a mark on the base in many instances. If you google search crotal bell maker's marks it should put you on a site that will give you some of the maker's marks as they appear on the bells and the dates that the maker's were in business.
That's a good find. Crotal bells are very collectible and a wonderful piece of history.
