These arent a find from today but from a few years ago.

My uncle found them in his yard with his Whites XLT. He lives in Sault Saint Marie, MIchigan which was established in 1668 I believe.

The one still has the original leather and sinew on it that was used to hold the leather to the bell.

The yard is FULL of rocks which in my unprofessional opinion kept these things from moving around over the years.

They all still have the ringers in them and all still ring.

Only one of them is marked, it look like a crown almost.

The pictures should show it.

Wondeful finds Ryaan. These are what we call in Pennsylvania, sleigh bells, and they come in all sizes. The design, which I believe is of German origin, is usually the same. These things are particularly dear to me, as fifty-five years ago the very first thing I ever pulled out of the ground was a pair of these sleigh bells on an old hardened piece of leather. I dug a hole in the back yard of our old farm and there they were...and I was hooked from that point on wondering what was in the soil! Wasn't until years later I'd get a detector though. Here's a scan of my first ones which look almost identical to yours.

Hello, I am Ryan's Uncle that found the Crotal bells. This was a few years back. I was using a White's Spectrum XLT. I no longer have that detector, as the display went bad on it. I Currently use a MineLab Explorer II, Fisher Coinstrike, and recently picked up a Garrett GTI-2500. I reall didn't know what kind of bells they were, but Ryan filled me in on them. I am trying to get Ryan back up here to Sault Ste. Marie so we can do some more detecting. Ryan, thanks for posting the pic's. It was fun visiting this past week. Catch up with you later.

Awesome finds! Ive dug 3 crotal/petal bells, one had the initials N and S on it. They dated back to late 1800 - early 1900's. Happy Dirt Fishing!

-Dan
