Agreed, don't paint the figure. It looks great just like it is.
 

I would leave the figure but do the rosewood stain. Love that you are bringing it back to life. He's got a good track record for that! 🙌

I also restored the second crucifix that has a plastic figure of Christ.
I used a cherry stain since I didn’t find the rosewood stain.
 

Reverse side of the cast Christ figure has an open hollow spot that I used to hang it on the cross with two screws and stabilize it with a hot glue gun.
