Found last week in the woods in the middle of nowhere. This area is not associated with any known activity such as training or recruiting and is not close to any known homesites. I assume some civil war vet or one of his descendants was deer hunting with his old issued weapon. I certainly never expected to find one of these in Connecticut. IMG_0402.webp

Cool find. Congrats!

Way to go that's cool nothing surprises me as far as finding stuff that makes ya wonder how it got there

The gov't sold those old Springfield's and captured Enfields to places like Bannerman's who then sold them for the next 50 yrs. Gary

Great point, Gary. I never considered that. Kind of like when we were kids, playing "army" with all the gear issued to our parents in WWII - Yes, I said parents. My mother was in the WACs with MacArthur. Australia, New Guinea, and the Phillipines. My dad was with the 20th AAF in the south Pacific. My mother had some cooler field gear than my dad, at least by the time we kids came along.

Looks like a William's regulation bullet great find

You can literally find them anywhere, until the day you deliberately go looking for them!

I hate to be the skeptic, but somebody needs to. The grooves on that bullet aren't right for a CW bullet IMO. Looks like a modern black powder bullet to me. I have dug hundreds of CW bullets in Texas, Arkansas, Virginia, and West Virginia and I've run into the modern black powder types too. I stumbled onto a black powder range once while searching a hill above a Rev War fort site. They came in all shapes and sizes.

agree with Steve - that is a 1900s style bullet

Thanks Steve & Casper. The bad news - someone was hunting in an area that has been closed to hunting for many years. The other bad news - I'm still waiting to find my first CW artifact.

You have a better chance of finding a CW button in Connecticut than a bullet. Keep hitting old house sites and you will get CW relics.
