Very nice piece. What does the other side look like? Is the base snapped off?
Post photo of B-side and a close up of base above. Not sure how to tell if the base has been snapped.

There's several collectors here that can likely pinpoint that point's age and cultural period. I'd say it's a knife rather than projectile based on it's asymmetry and thickness alone. A good find IMO.

Thanks Tdog, appreciate it.

It looks similar to the "Greene" type in Boudreau's "New England Typology" but would be great if an expert weighs in.

No clue on type, but it's a nice one. Looks to be made of some high quality rose quartz.

Greene and rose quartz seem like good calls. The bases on Greene points can be convex or straight, but are thinned, per Boudreau, so likely a tiny bit missing at the base.

Check Squibnocket Stemmed as well, an earlier type and this point could fit its form and metrics. And quartz would be more common for Squibnocket, much less common for Greene. Notice Boudreau includes no Greene points made from quartz.

Thanks Charl. Squibnocket Stemmed is a good candidate. I hadn't noticed that none of the Greene points were quartz.

It's at the top end of length and wider than typical for Squibnocket.

I'm just going to admire it without worrying too much about putting a name to it. The level of skill required to craft it from a material like quartz is remarkable.

Yeah, good call at being wider than typical for Squibnocket. I noticed that too, that might eliminate that type actually. Typing is not easy, that’s for sure….
