Hey Tnet;

I have hunted a few sites lately where there was alot of iron trash in the ground and it had me wondering. When the threshold cuts out, and I mean no threshold at all until I stop and let the detector catch up, will the detector sound off on a good target at any reasonable depth (4"or more) or is everything effectively masked? The settings I am running are Auto+3, Ferrous Coin, and Dr Tones program. The suggested sensitivity is running from 15 to 21. If the setup I am running in these areas could be improved, I am all ears to what is working for you guys on these sites. I have tried high trash and fast on with these settings but I do not like how the good signals sound more chopped. I am using a stock coil by the way. I have all of the minelab coils at my disposal so I guess going the 6" coil route could help. Let me know what you guys think. Sube, you out there?

Try this put your response to long this will clear up your chopped signals while still having your detector in fast as a side note only long and smooth have no blanking after detecting a target . But smooth sounds like cops and robbers and drives me crazy and has poor separation with muti targets .
Also tone bins if you change the tone of 47 to 50 conduct #s to 75hz as your lower bin there will be less high toning from these #s making you have to stop to see what was high toning all the time . Even if you disc these #s from the 12 line down to 35 they still well high tone above 11 to 1 conduct by assigning 75 hertz to these 4 #s all go low without having it blank after detection because of it being disc so it's better to hear the iron in this case .

To do this well take one bin away but well save you time to get my bins set up I have disc out 1 to 10 so I have my nickel bin set at 1000hz 10 to 15 then 16 to 28 are 400hz 29 to 46 at 1000hz and 47 to 50 at 75hz. Where I am hunting I will give up my gold rings in this area and foil could also change and except the 1 to 10 if looking for low conductors . sube

Thanks for the suggestions. I am gonna give those a shot. Back to my original question, do you think that the signals below 4" are masked when I am getting no threshold? I cannot recall a time where I got a good object at any depth in these areas. The only things I can remember getting a signal were very large pieces of metal or metal on the surface to 2".

Back to the original question, do you think that signals below 4" are masked when I am getting no threshold . Yes but you can have signals from the surface to 12 " that you will get no threshold that will be masked . The ctx well show trace when in no threshold but if the target is masked from target trace then it is effectively masking the good target .

Target trace will show targets to 7 inches when in no threshold and deeper in pinpoint sizing target trace . When the target has iron on top of a coin it can only be to the point that target trace can still see it say a nail 3 inches long if it's more than a inch directly above the dime target trace will not see it if it's smaller then it might go to 2 inches lot's of variables here so a quarter with this nail will be deeper than the dime.

So the 4" is meaningless as you can see when ever threshold is lost you loose audio and your only option is target trace . On my 48 to 50 bin it's 47 to 50 sorry . sube

Okay, so when the threshold is gone, you are keeping your eyes glued to the screen? If it showing something solid on target trace, you are digging?
