cutting through frozen turf idea

I am looking to see if there is a tool available that has a spade on the end but in place of the handle, a sliding weight, like a dent puller would have in a auto body shop, to cut through turf that is frozen. Otherwise, I will have to build my own.

the old guys up in Alaska used old hot water heaters, strippeddown hooked to a hose hooked to a drill shaft....burn right through the frozen tundra...
