I was stationed at Kadena AFB back in the late 60's Spent a lot of time in Koza City
and in Naha
.
I found a fair amount of spent 30 and 50 cal shells in the shallow waters off of the Air Base. While stationed there we had other men in our barracks find crashed planes and tanks in the jungles and once when they expanded the golf course, they even found an abandoned medical station complete with skeletons
on a small hill side hidden by heavy brush and forgotten for over 25 years. It was abandoned by the Japanese during the invasion when our troops hit the shore.
At the time I was there it was the height of the Viet Nam war and we were running bombing mission from Kadena to Viet Nam and Cambodia 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Ever so often an old Japanese soldier who never surrendered would come out of the jungle take a shot at a plane or truck, then retreat back into the jungle.
All of the old WWII stuff I found while there was stolen one night from my room in the barracks.
