Hit the local ghost town I've been detecting, after the town was abandoned in 1912 some of the land was used as an ag farm land type thing for the local highschool for awhile I'm told, but other than that, sawmill ponds are still there, some 120 yr old brick foundations, and I've found a good amount of 1800s-early 1900s glass. Matter of fact, zero glass after about 1920. Plenty of turn of the century relics. The trees are all 60-80-100 years old. Its been mostly untouched.

This evening I had about 2 hours and only found a few things, though I walked a couple miles in circles. I thought this was a hunk of iron, even though it rang up on the Nox at a 13. I put it in my pouch and forgot about it. Its a pretty little pocket knife, but unfortunately it started to fall apart when I started cleaning it, so I stopped. Ever seen one like it? I'd like to date it to at least a decade, if possible. Do you think it would be from the original town (1881-1912) or the later use, or possibly dropped by a hunter?

Also, the mystery hook. That's a cookie sheet its sitting on. Found near the sawmill part of the town. Any ideas?

Those scales on your knife are made of tortoise shell. Very popular back then but the tortoises are protected now. Gary

oh wow. Thank you for that info. Do you think this was an early 1900s knife or more likely dropped by someone in the decades to follow?

No idea on the time period but tortoise shell hasn't been used for quite a while. Gary
