Hi everyone,

I found this button in the middle of a (German) forest and I am looking for help on finding the time period it is from. I haven't been able to find even a basic button dating guide on the internet so any suggestions/thoughts would be really appreciated! :icon_thumleft:

This area has a lot of history with the Seven Years War 1756–1763 and I'm trying to confirm or deny whether this button could be from that time period. Thanks for looking!

(Leather still attached to it.)

Euryan, welcome to TreaureNet. :) That PARTICULAR form of 1-piece stamped-brass button, whose edge is "curled over" on the back, was manufactured in Europe during the latter-1800s into the early 20th Century. The three photos below show some examples of that specific type. Two are World War One era German Army and Navy buttons. The third is a Russian Imperial Army button, whose back is date-marked 1895.

The front of your button has too much concretion on it for us to see whether it has an emblem on it or not... and if it does, whether the emblem is a Military or Civilian emblem. So, I cannot give you its specific identification -- just its general date-range.

Thank you VERY much for the information! I was hoping that curved back would be enough to give an approximate date. Many thanks.
