Hello,
Yesterday I posted about a hunt I did around an old home. Found a musketball, button, and 1890 indian, as well as some other old odds and ends.
Today I returned twice and did some more hunting. I went for an hour in the early afternoon and hit a very different part of this field along a major road. This road appears on some old maps I have, so I thought I would give it a try. I managed to find 70-100 targets, mostly chiopped up soda cans. Only 2 coins came my way over there - a zinc penny and another Indian! My pouch was full to the brim with garbage.
After a break to go watch several thousand crazies jump in the ocean at once, I went back for a couple hours before sundown. It took me about 1 miniute to get a good signal, and as I pinpointed it, I looked down, and saw my target: a coin. I bent over, picked it up, and investigated it. ANOTHER INDIAN!! This one is 1882, and is now the oldest coin I have ever found. After some jumping for joy, I walked another few feet, and found a nice old button with a little weight on it. There is a backmark, but I cannot read it yet. Some more gentle cleaning should coax it out. The next 2 hours gave up very little. 3 more pre 1930 shotgun shells, a pair of scissors, 2 more buttons(one cuff and on broken flat button), several odds and ends, and tons of chopped soda cans.
So far from this site, I have dug a total of about 12 coins. 3 were indians, 7 were memorial pennies, and 2 were modern nickles. No silver yet, but there should be some somewhere. Hopefully tomorrow I find some! Sorry, no pictures today. I am beat, and need some rest. I have permission to hunt again tomorrow, and Ill post pictures from today and tomorrow then. Hope you are all Able to get out this weekend and score some oldies or some goldies!
Happy huntin,
Anthony
