Spent 4.5 hours (9 man hours) on the grass sheep field which has been ploughed in the past.

We had done this field but as the grass is short & soaking wet its worth doing again.

Here is a little tip you may have done yourself? When you have done a field grid system then on your return try going at a 90 degree angle to the way you did before.

I was pleased today with several keepers at 7inches-8inches;

3 scrappy romans
Cut Qrter Hammered cica 1300 (very small easy to miss, Cortes is earning its keep) ;D - When a Penny is cut into a Qrter it becomes a Farthing.
Very interesting blank silver coin cica 1600s with various countermarks on both sides :)
Silver plating - Hallmarked Chester 1908
Medieval Square Coin Weight
Lead Token
Livery Button
and bits.......

Overall a good result 8)

a good hunt you had there congrats and continued good luck

Another outstanding field trip, Crusader and Crusader Dad! I added two Tesoro's (Vaquero and Tejon) to my detecting arsenal because of what you and a Dutch friend find with yours. I actually used my Vaquero in England last fall and found a 1/4 silver penny as well as a whole silver Edward II. The Tesoro units are great on tiny silver items, aren't they?
I'm always waiting on your next group of photos.

not trying to knit pick with you crusader but the coin you have that farthing on is a nickel. that is jeffersons bust not washingtons.

now that you've explained what a farthing is, what is a bob ?

very nice finds, and I really like the silver plate. did that make your detector dance ?

I never said what coin I had put it on.

It is obivious to you in the US, is it not?

I fail to see your point, he may have asked to scale it to a dime but I have none.

It is there for scale.

A Bob is a Shilling (same as the decimal new 5 pence).
Shilling is 12 Pennies or 48 Farthings

you said note it is half the thickness of a qrter, which I take as a quarter. I was not in any way trying to instigate any hard feelings, I was just trying to be helpfull. and thank you for letting me know what a bob is, I've heard that term several times in the past on tv and in movies.

it is just nice to know what they are talking about, as it gives me a clearer idea of what they truly mean.

I hope there are no hard feelings, I did not mean any disrespect to you at all.

Bob = shilling
tanner = sixpence
cartwheel or thrupney = old brass three penny piece
quid = pound
halfcrown = two shillings and sixpence piece
silver thrupney = old silver three penny piece

Great job on the finds. That cut quarter is tiny! Way to go on finding that one.
