Day 3 was a beautiful cooler day and a new field, we were looking for an old path shown on early 1800’s map.
More beautiful buttons, a livery button made by Firmin shows a lion holding a sword and possibly a Fleur-de-lis? A ring, a small trade weight, pot fragments, spatula type thing… and 2 interesting objects ?!
Many Assorted other unknown objects! A nice peice of pottery and a heavy scalloped bit of iron 🤔

A few coins currently being id’ed by himself xx

''old path shown on early 1800’s map''

I used to think footpaths were as good idea, they are not really. Why would you lose anything on a footpath. Rarely happens. Things on fields are dumped there mostly, or settlement & farming activity.
I assume you have downloaded google earth & research Crop-marks? If not, this is the most valuable research route, I have a few other secrets but this one I can share. Look at the timeline & ensure you try every date given for each field.

Ya'll find some cool stuff. Glad to see some modern junk show up there too. makes me feel better about stuff I find. LOL

In your 5th picture to the left of the weight is a spigot tap top. Under it is part of a early 1900s toy gun (the butt end).

Thanks, we were just interested in this one as it was the route used from a wharf, so more goods being moved along it. Havent looked into crop marks yet. But will def look into that! Thank you! x

Well, it looks like someone did drop something on the path. Got to get from point A to point B.

I guess a picture wouldn't be any help would it?
Have you ever tried the magnifier app.?
Brilliant toy for the phone.

As they don't look like early marks & the weight looks more modern, it's most likely 19th C or later.

Cropmarks are the best/easiest available route to finding Ancient Sites. Your getting all the short-cuts I had to learn the hard way.
