Daytona, Ormand, Flagler beaeches.

These beaches are pretty popular. Has anybody found anything significant here or have some good stories? I have spent some time hunting these beaches and have come up with common coins, jewelry and junk.

Hello flotsam, and welcome to TN. ;D

I am not sure what you consider significant, I know there has been a lot of nice jewelry found there by different hunters, unfortunately not enough by me. :'( I have found a few rings there, and know of other hunters who have found some nice jewelry there.

Check out the diamond ring at the top of the page "Recent Treasures Found By Our Members" found on CoCoa Beach. I met another hunter on the beach while hunting who had his diamond ring featured in "Weastern & Eastern Treasure " magazine.

Hey,

Daytona and Ormond are drive on beaches. That means they are packed like cement. I haven't gone in the water yet, but that is next. Otherwise, the easiest places to dig are up by the wall where people park, you can find coins and other interesting stuff. The sand is softer there, more like a normal beach.

I've done many hours at Flagler, with only coins to show South of the pier and not much North of the pier. There is a bar across the street on the South end that always has some guys hanging around with nothing to do, makes me nervous to be there sometimes with a good detector . . .

Jack, Daytona is only pack on the drive lane the rest of it is very easy to dig, and even the drive lane isn't hard to dig. Now my scoop is like a backhoe so that may be why it is easy for me to dig.

I prefer Daytona over CoCoa and Melborne because the beach is flatter and you have more area to hunt. I have hunted Cocoa several times, never found more then a few coins and didnt really enjoy it that much.

My first MD'ing trip was to Cocoa Beach and got nothing worthwhile at all, and I have a detector that works in wet and dry sand.

But I know a lot of people get some pretty good hits, especially if you can search in the surf.

I might try hitting a local park this weekend and see how that goes.

Hi,

Yes, I've hunted all the beaches a few times. I have a long handled scoop that can sure dig it up, that's not an issue. What I mean is that it is fine sand that when you stamp your foot barely makes a dent. If someone drops a quarter, they can just bend down and pick it up.

The only way to loose something is to have it washed over by a wave, then the top layer of sand gets moved around.

I have gotten pretty worn out with searching the towel zone, Saturday I'm going to try waist high water at low tide. Seems like I'm always busy when low tide falls between the 5 - 8 P.M. zone during the week.

Hey Jack,

This is Tom in Ormond Beach. I was MD'ing the southside of the Flagler Beach pier and met a fellow there also MD'ing. He said he had a problem with teenagers earlier. They were throwing pennies at him and laughing.

I did Daytona Beach Monday and found a couple of pennies and a wrench. It nearly blew my ears off.

Re: Daytona, Ormond, Flagler beaches.

Hey Tom,

Sorry to hear that, but that is the type of crowd that is drawn to that beach unfortunately. I actually haven't been there in a few weeks, have gone to Hammock Dunes a few times and started heading further South. I'd like to start MDing some of the beaches right around 40 in Ormond. I was down there Saturday afternoon trying the waist high water and would like to go back. I was only there for about 30 minutes.

I'd prefer to be able to go after work, when there isn't many people and there is ample parking, but it's been kinda tough to do lately. I work in Holly Hill, so I'm only about 2 miles away. Looks like low tide predictions between 5 and 7 this week, maybe I can go after work on Thursday!

Jack

Jack,

Better check those low tides again, I'm seeing midnightish to 4:30am for first low and noon till 4:30pm for 2nd low tides through Tues of next week. I wish it was 5-7. ;D
