Got out for 2 1/2 hours Monday afternoon and it felt great ... temps in the upper 40s, light winds, and the ground had dried up quite a bit. I went to the old plantation site I've been hunting and hunted the fringe areas and a spot where I was told a small tenant house once stood until the 1950s. I didn't find any coins but here are some photos of the better stuff I found: a knife blade, a mother of pearl button, an old hinge (that still works), an old tag from Lyric All American Mohawk Corp (they made tube radios during the 1930s), and a couple of whatzits that I've posted on the What Is It Forum. It was a good afternoon to be out hunting and I had a great time. Thanks for looking and Happy New Year to all the Tnet folks!! ~ Jimmy
*Update* ... Thanks to johnnyi and vayank over on the what is it forum, the whatzit pictured in the second photo below has been identified as a patent tag. With a bit of cleaning I was able to make out the following: In the middle area of the tag it says "Negative Pole" and has several lightning bolts under the words ... the words on the outside rim of the piece say "The Elias ?? galvanic medal ... patented October 21, 1879".
Ironspike nailed this ID with the following patent link: http://www.google.com/patents?id=7d...rce=gbs_overview_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q=&f=false
Thanks for the help guys!
