Do you have a place that you never seem to get completely tired of?
I mean, just a local school ground, park or some such? Where you feel
like you're always retracing steps you made sometime in the past. Yet,
for convenience sake or just plain habit you keep going back?

Well, I was at one today, for about 4 hours:

2016 (567).webp

I was nearing the end of that time and figuring that maybe, just maybe,
it was time for me to move on. At least to give this place a rest for a year or so. ;)
I hadn't found but the 3 new quarters, and those on the tot-lot. :dontknow:

But, then, no sooner than I even thought it, a small floodgate must've opened. LOL
Because all the rest came to light in about an hour.

Starting with this one:

I did try to "call" this one before I dug but,
the very last thing I thought it would be
was a nickel!!!? LOL

2016 (568).webp
2016 (569).webp

I believe Fishy got the better deal. ;)

2016 (570).webp

I'll leave interpretation of that one to you guys. ;)

2016 (562).webp
2016 (563).webp

And....of course....just to thicken the plot.
I open this plug and look what cracks into view.
(remember, this is just a normal, clad farm, school ground!)

If anyone can make "heads or tails" of it,
you'd have my gratitude. My eyes see almost
nothing.

It's not perfectly round, it's thin as all get out, it appears to be holed.

If no one can tell exactly what it is that won't surprise me.
But, if someone can make an educated guess and tell me this "might"
be a hammered coin, it would mark my very first! That would be fun for me.

Anywho.... whatcha think? Should I return? LOL ;)

Thanks for peeking!

I don't know if that is a coin or a very worn pendant, but what I do know is your post was awesome, and I laughed out loud at your lizard art! Glad you had a good hunt! Thanks for sharing. -Lisa

I found a mystery disc similar to yours (except green) at an old schoolhouse site. After some cleaning and checking it out under a microscope, turns out to be a flattened/smashed 1880 IH cent. Railroad tracks about 1/2 mile away.

Clean it up and check it out under magnification.
Neat find!

The two beaches because people continually make deposits there and it's easy walking.

I think everyone has a spot like that or two. Good job on the wheat. I have not clue on what the other find might be. Jeffofpa will probably take a good crack at it.

Nice Finds , Clad Add's Up. Just bought a Nice Seated Half & a Capped Bust Half yesterday with found Clad $.

I think yr copper disc is a Modern Hammered Cent or a Train Crush Cent, (from 1982 or before) , I used to put coins on the RR tracks , so the Engine 's would Squash them, I they did not vibrate off the track before the train got to them , I usually had to find them in the Rocks but think I still have some. IMO The Hole makes yours more interesting .

P.S. I usually go back to those old hunted MANY times sites , Where u have given the rocks names , & recall where those Great signals are , where the target must be a 57 Chevy at 15 feet.

Simple & Convenient type Sites.

The 1921 cent is sharp.....no clue on the flat holed piece...
The railroad smash was a good suggestion....

Great post! Wish you could ID that disc🤔. Congrats and HH

Nice goin on the wheat, I wish I could help with the mystery holed item

Congratualtions on the fun hunt! :occasion14:

We all have those places. Some of my favorite are old farm fields; for me they bring me great peace just walking around and detecting.

GL & HH

Congrats on your finds and thanks for the post

I'll say Not a Pendant unless Hand made.
The hole looks like it was made with a square nail, pick or other sharp object to me.

Hammered ? I'd say there is a Excellent possibility it is a hammered coin.
not Hammered in the Traditional numismatic sense.
But hammered all the same :laughing7:

some will cringe at this, but I'm of the belief until you I'd' it, it is just a Flattened coin.
so personally I would suggest Rubbing it with a wet cloth & trying to get more detail
to show by wetting it & holding it on angle in the Light. to start.

Excellent Find all the Same, But I'd want to know :laughing7:

the 1921Wheat looks great too !

as far as your other Question/comment "retracing step" You proved why I believe in it
I believe you can search a 5 Foot square piece of Ground forever & Never be sure you cleaned it out.
[ considering Ground condition changes, speed of swing changes , weather changes,
Ground Balancing changes , angle of Swing changes alone are close to infinite , Detector brand and frequency changes, Coil type & size changes, possibly even mood Changes effecting how close you listen to whispers
and tones & more.
ever swing your coil over a spot 3 or 4 times not getting anything .
and all of a sudden like magic a tone pops through loud & clear ? it has for me more then once, just from so slight a change, I couldn't notice it anywhere but in my hearing
]
unless you dig to 5 Feet and sift the Ground with dust size screen, before returning the ground to the hole. then you gotta wonder what is at 5'1" that you didn't reach :tongue3:

Nice digs Whadi. :icon_thumright: When I started this hobby, I gridded every site I hit. There are many that I have gone back to and find very little. That holed coin is sweet. Hope you can get it ID'd.

Yep! All correct! I completely agree!

I don't know the really old coins too well. Did they
actually make "hammered" copper coins?

I told you Jeff would take a good crack at it.lol

I don't know. But My guess without actually inspecting it in person,
Half Cent, Large Cent or Colonial that was beat up pretty good :laughing7:

least likely of the 3 ... Colonial if your right on the star.

and
1790's coins are the only ones with letters and stars on the front i think
