I finally got the "Queen of Clad" today (also known as the Sacagawega dollar) !!! Got some other deep red clad and a 3 coin spill with two nickels sandwiched and a dime in same hole. The nickels are by themselves so you can see the effect. Also got a cheap faux turquoise ring today. The ring must have some lead in the alloy it feels heavy, read @ 12 - 19 on my E-Trac. I have to admit it was a bit of a thrill seeing the ring emerge from its clump of dirt :headbang:

Congrats on your beautifully toned Sacajawea dollar!:hello2: :occasion18: When I first began detecting nearly 3 years ago and had piled up a few small clad coins and plenty pulltabs & beer caps, a nicely toned Sacajawea was my first thrilling coin find! About a year later came a humdinger mellow 1923 Peace silver dollar SURFACE find! Few months later while digging numerous clad cents & nickels under big tree, I dug a stern Susan B. Anthony dollar. Thought it was a Barber coin when glimpsing only a tiny bit of the head emerge from the dirt, but the joke was on me, lol. Now I wanna get to the really old dollar coins! HAVE FUN! Andi

Thanks g-olden years :hello:I have found what seems like tons of clad but dollar coins are very infrequent here, half dollars seem to be even more rare tho think I found my last half-dollar coin about 3 years ago and it was like a early 1970s one. Still looking for any old dollar coins of course :laughing7: those are like the proverbial "Hens teeth" ! Ha-ha funny describing the Suzy B as stern but man that is one ugly coin no wonder they didn't catch on at all (plus people confused them with quarters) !! Thanks for the replies all 8-)

Great Find CoinandRelicMan!! Got a great story for you on the Sacajawea Dollar!! Some years ago when I was King of Mardi Gras here, I thought those dollars would be great throws to the crowds! I had the bank gather up a $100 dollars worth of them and when the parade started I threw them to the throngs of people but to my suprise no one picked them up as they apparently assumed they were trinkets!! I did notice the little children would pick them up and put the dollars in their pockets!! I would love to know what the adults thought when they made it home to see the kid's faces with their gold dollars!! Astonished I'm sure!! Anyway looks as if you had a great hunt!! GOOD HUNTING!! VERDE!!

Hi Verde =) I can barely imagine what 40 Sags would feel like in my pocket, bet they would be full or near it, might cause the pocket to give way, could cause funny results, like instant pocket spillage ?

Thanks for the kind offer on the backyard but at present I am unable to travel, due to prior commitments! It is raining here today so taking a break from the hunt, hoping to figure out a good spot for detecting or at least maybe my intuition will guide me to a few silver coins, feel that it is about time I found a few :laughing7:

Cheers !
CARM
