was a hitch hiker designed for large animals. They readily clung to legs of buffalo, prehistoric camels, cave bears, etc.

Native Americans used them for both food and basket weaving.

I have had one or two jump on a bare leg and I will tell you it is a little uncomfortable.

After taking this pic at camp last night, I see a small surprise...

I remember finding those seed pods in Oklahoma. They make good tooth picks.
 

That critter was waiting for his moment on national geographic, but since they never showed he took his chances for this photo op....kind of like rabbit ears behind the head.........lol...
 

Found quite a few of those in Southern NM as well. I kept one for ~10 years but after 4 or 5 moves it finally got damaged and tossed. They're definitely cool.
