thanks for the tip Jim, ill give it a try.

Hello and welcome Papa! I've only been using my DFX for about 6 months, but have learned a bit. I may be able to offer some advice.

To get the best advice, whether by me or others, please offer more detail like...

your location, what type of area you search(beach, parks, woods), what kind of targets are you after, what type of coil

what is your machine doing/not doing that makes you unhappy( be as specific as you can)?

I have a dfx and find it hard to work with . (tech) I guess I'm old school. I really don't like it . I really don't like the fact that it use 8 AA batterries as well.

Buy a rechargable battery pack and charger for it. It will save you a ton in the long run.

Listen for the sounds and learn the bars on the bottom of the graph. The DFX is a great machine, I miss mine. The bars will tell you a lot about the metal content of the target, the sounds will definitely tell you alot. Solid tones, not choppy.

Sometimes when I was in areas with no trash and deep targets, I would listen for the threshold to blank. It wouldn't even register a reading. Sure enough they were deep miniballs 12-15''. It's a very good machine.

I know that there are DVDs on the internet for it, if not for the DFX specifically then the Spectrum XLT videos will help.
