2013-12-12 19.56.12_resized.webpFirst post ever, 8 month lurker. Lotsa finds with my AT Pro (I chose to buy AT Pro by reading all the treasurenet posters) that I will start posting.

20131212_103549_resized_1.webpEarring found in a playground, maybe brass or copper backing with marking -KC. Heavy earring, doubt the stone is diamond. Too big to be real for my finds.

Wifey and I can't find any reference to the stamping. Will ask jeweler 12/13. Any ideas?

KC is probably maker. Based on the pic, I don't think setting is gold or silver, which would make it highly unlikely that the stone is real. Even with a precious metal setting, the stones in earrings are usually CZ's.

If you type silver markings onto google you should be able to see if your "KC" markings mean anything.
Good luck.

Welcome to Tnet! If you to plan to continue detecting into the future, you may want to invest in a diamond tester. They're pretty cheap on E-bay. You can even get them in a kit that includes some acid for testing purity of gold and silver, and a scale to weigh your finds. Now go find the other one! :laughing7:

as mentioned...a Diamond Tester and Gold Acids are a must for detecting

Buying a test kit tonight. I have other finds and hate to think of paying for an jeweler's appraisal if it's junk to begin with. Don't want to trick them into freely helping me again and again either.
Do MDers consign diamonds pieces, EBAY them, send to the Dallas ARAgold?
Thank you for the help!

Unless the diamond is big, like a carat or larger, the diamond doesn't have much value, so the piece is worth the value of the metal only. If you are sending in jewelry to scrap, you can take the stones out yourself or they will return the stones.
