Only one way to find out. Take it to your jewelry store. Great find..Congrats...Lance

Probably a high dollar ring even if it is a cz !! Large and beautiful. Really a great find :)
Rings with diamonds are rarely set in sterling due to the fact that the metal is not as hard and the precious diamonds could be lost easier ??? However some were in the 30s and 40s by reputable jewelry dealers , usually small, less quality diamonds. This made it possible for more women to have a diamond, being that it was less expensive. I have seen nice diamonds set in sterling at the owners request. Well you probably already know all this :)

ty all for the replys ..still haven't taken it to jewelers yet will keep you posted

nice find! Unlikely real diamond unless ring is gold or platinum.

Nice ring but they done generaly put a diamond that big in silver ...probably a CZ

Probably not a diamond, but a nice find. I grew up in Paterson, New Jersey. Have you done any detecting in Penington,or Westside Park in Paterson. Always thought it would be a great location.

I lived in the Paterson, and Totowa Boro area. Attended schools 5,7,19 and Passaic Tech. Which was Paterson Tech. The Name Harvey doesn't ring a bell. Most of my neighbors had Italian names.
