Diamond testers

I was just wondering if those little diamond testers actually can tell you if a stone is real or not and if so how much would a good one cost? Do the cheap ones work or do you have to buy an expensive one. Is one brand a better choice over another? Just curious... anyone know?

I have the top-right one. It works well and can easily tell real from fake. Don't know much about the brands comparison.
