I got a call the other day from Nita saying her husband had lost his glasses while setting up tree stands for deer hunting. She and Larry had looked below both tree stands and had no luck. I told her that I'd be glad to try and find them. I met Larry at their home and followed him to the woods where he thought he had lost the glasses. We stopped at the tree stand where he was sure he lost them and I spent 20 minutes looking around and heard nothing but shallow iron. We went to the other side of the woods and I hunted under the second stand and found nothing. He was ready to leave and disappointed that we hadn't found the glasses. I told Larry that I've looked for a good many lost items and much of the time the item is not where the owner thought it was. I asked him if there was anyplace else he'd been. He pointed to a place about 15ft from where we entered the woods and said he had cut a couple tree branches down to give him a better shot from the stand. I walked over and found the glasses under some leaves. ;D Needless to say Larry was thrilled because this was the third pair of glasses he'd lost and his wife was giving him a hard time. :laughing7: Larry tried to pay me and I told him I didn't take any rewards. Besides his in-laws own a lot of the land I have permission to hunt. He kept insisting he wanted to at least give me gas money so I asked him how much he would charge me if my car was broken down along the road and he helped me. I told him all I wanted was a "thank you". It took a total of 45 minutes to find those glasses and I may have found another home site in the woods we were searching in. Have to go back and check it out better since I already have permission to hunt the property.

It already has Leslie. Larry's in-laws are friends of mine and own at least 2 sq miles of land that has at least 15 19th century homesites. I've probably found a baggie full of old coins on this land already and still have more hunting to do. The homesite I ran across today dates from before 1865 and as soon as deer season is over, I'll go check it out.
