My old man knew a guy who lived in a shotgun shack not far from here. I saw the place a few times.
Anyhow if someone come up and hollered as was kind of customary approaching a home, the old guy would open the door, stick his head out and yell "Huh?"
So some wags had an idea. They led a mule into the yard with a rope, and crept up and tied the end of the rope to the door knob. Then they stood back and hailed the house. Old guy opens the door, sticks his head out and yells. The startled mule sat back on his haunches and the guy's head was trapped
You cannot move a stubborn mule. The guys who did this ran off cause they knew the guy would likely go for the shotgun once he freed himself.
My dad said it happened so I tend to believe it. Had to make your own entertainment back then
