*Please don't take this any way beyond just an observation, that's all it's meant to be.*
While driving this past Sunday around noon here in Vegas I noticed some strange things. First, there was hardly any traffic. There's a joke that rush hour in this city has pretty much become a 24-hour thing, but this was incredibly light for such a beautiful summer day. I hadn't seen daytime traffic this light in 20 years easily.
Next I went to the library to drop off some DVDs. Sunday is crunch day there for movie rentals and you're lucky to find anything good. I walk in...and I heard crickets. Maybe a handful of people and that was it.
I couldn't figure out what was going on.
Then it hit me...Mexico was playing Argentina! A sizable portion of our populace was at home in front of their TVs.
To test my theory I crossed town to go to a favorite movie theater. Made it there in record time. After I came out (and the game was over
) the streets reverted back to their normal choked state.
It was an amazing validation of the Hispanic saturation of this city.
