Very nice coin! I have found some large cents in the past but cleaning them up has always been difficult. What did you do to yours ?

That one was in great shape to start. Looks like very little wear, nice job on finding and cleaning. Mine come out crusty and worn. Soil seems to play a big part, as well as environmental factors like fertilizers, lime, etc. And sometimes electrolytic and/or galvanic action from another metal close by. Sandy, loamy soils seem to turn out some beauties. While the clays and acidic soils will kill a good coin. At least, that's been my experience. Great find!

great find....... BTW, I read 1820?

If you look close, you will see the curled up end on the three.

This coin came out of sandy soil, I just use a soft tooth brush and olive oil, on silver just rince with water, no brush.

Have liked iffy signals for years  :icon_thumright:

I'd say Both pix are the same coin, 1830.
I thought my eyes were bad :laughing7:
Brian Should know! he found & photographed it.

Welli have been collecting coins and reading dates for about 10 yrs... iam not saying he did anything bad or that he is lying..but the dates are clearly different on the coins....that is also why i posted the pics with the #s outlined.......

How can you say say "clearly"? ???What I can see clearly is a lot of reflection causing me not to see clearly.

Both pics show the same spot of corrosion right above Liberty's head where the ribbon goes over the top.

I have three different detectors, my favorite relic machine is the Garrett freedom ace. I have had this one for 14 years. This detector is now the ace 250, as far as beating this one there are many but I will take this one. If you are in a competition hunt, not many detectors will interfear with your machine. Nt

Great find Brian! :o
I'd love to find an LC like that anyday! :icon_thumright:

I don't know why the coin came out the way it did, when you mentioned the date I had to sit back and take a second look, well it sure looked like 1820, but I assure you it is 1830. Here it is again, when I first posted the coin it still had some olive oil on it, the ground does something to copper coins and make them a little dull, but I will take it anyway. HH.
